Faith or Reality?

When you work in the realms of the so called weird and wacky, it often occurs to you that things really aren't what they seem. How far do you allow your intuition to guide you, what is the difference between intuition and imagination or is there one?
The more you allow yourself to understand that this reality that we perceive, may not be all we think it is, the more you wonder; what is it then?

There is now a mass of information out there on the Internet and in some fabulous new books, which are informing us that maybe we are living a life that is the way it is, because of our belief structure, both individually and on mass, be it culturally, religious or socially. Once we start to change some of these beliefs, our perception of our own reality changes too. Some folk think that they don't have any beliefs, but that is a belief too! We cannot live without them as we need structure in our lives, but we sure could do without some of the beliefs we hold, but which ones?
That is up to us to find out, and that is what life is really all about, a growth process by learning about ourselves and then (as if by chance, ha ha) we learn about all that is around us too, which is not just what we see, but also what we feel and then what we understand.

So learning is not just about taking what some one tells you as a truth but experiencing it for yourself and then making a decision.
So what is a truth? Well it starts with a thought and the more you think a thought the more it becomes a habit (and eventually a reality) and the more others believe this same thought the more it becomes a belief. The difficulty is; was the thought OK in the first place? It may have been at that moment and for them. This is where the ethics of right or wrong come in. Something can soon become a belief which was a thought by someone that was technically not right or certainly not what you would have even considered OK originally. (Actually there is no right or wrong, but thats a even bigger issue and not for now!)

So its about trust... and that's another dilemma. So is a truth a belief you can trust and how do you know you can trust it?
So this is where you go back to the experience of something, how does this make you feel? It is only when we start to trust ourselves to ask new questions and allow new answers to evolve that we can truly trust what we believe. What is happening now is when you start this process, because there is an awful lot of other folks doing the same, as if by magic (ha ha) a confirmation arrives from else where in the form which may surprise you, or not!

What all this got do do with horses you may ask? Well as horses see straight through us, sadly warts and all, they are very good at pointing us in the right direction when it comes to change, particularly making our lives and consequently their lives better. They really are here to help us, even when they are doing completely the opposite of what we want. So ask yourself when you are in one of those moments...

Is this a good idea?
Is this a good time to do this idea?
How does it affect them or me, i.e is there pain involved?
How do I feel and also what do they look like they are feeling?
Could this be done differently? ( This is meant to be fun!)
Shall I stop?

We have a belief (which I am afraid is just someones thought somewhere at some time) that we should never give in as then we will have lost. I would guess there are a lot of folk out there that wish they didn't have that belief!!

This is all about our own journey or lessons in life, stand up and be an individual and trust in yourself, you can only learn your own lessons not anyone elses, they are just doing what they are doing too.

More on The Shift.

It seems the more we open ourselves up to new ideas, change the way we construct our thoughts, even try to try think less, the more we have presented to us. The secret is recognising what we are experiencing is something to learn from or remind us to see it differently.

All horses see straight through us, they feel what we are experiencing, how we handle situations (or not) and if we care to take notice, will help us improve our current life. Zac who is a horse that is very switched on, he in Klaus Ferdinand Hempfling's categorisation is 'A Ministry', so is particularly 'able' spiritually.

Today he saw an opportunity to show me how good he is at it. I had a personal issue (details not to go into) which had left me feeling somewhat 'knotted' emotionally. This morning on leading him out to his field he was snappy with me, giving me the 'quick nip routine', showing his displeasure at my emotional state!
Thankfully I recognised this immediately and instead of trying to analyze it all, I just switched to how glorious the spring day was, sun shining, buds bursting etc and focused my attention of this positive experience. Seconds later he walked happily beside me. How simple it can be, if we let it!!
Thanks Zac.

If you are really interested in this Shift business buy this book, it is a real eye opener.

Shift in Consciousness

We cant help but notice that things have been changing somewhat; particularly in the past 9months, constant talk of credit crunch, job losses, banks crashing and large scale fraud. The media is a having a field day bombarding us with this information and for some it's creating fear and panic. Is there something behind this that we maybe should be taking notice of...

The way I see it, it's about increasing our awareness that the way we have been leading our lives particularly in the last 15 - 20 years is way out of balance. We humans seem to have forgotten that we too are all part of nature and we are not solely on this earth to abuse and take for granted the gift of life that we have been given. Green issues are never far from our attention either!

So, whats this all got to do with our horses? Perhaps we should be starting to ask ourselves why do we have horses in our lives, what do we expect from them, how are they affected by us and how much fun is it for both them and us? Dare we even think that it may be something to do with our Egos and that our horses play a big part in boosting them? We all hate the idea of animal cruelty and try our best to look after our 'pets' to a high standard. So much time (and money) is spent on their welfare, feeds, rugs, bedding, turnout etc, but are we spending enough time with them, our horses? When we do, how much attention do we give 'them' or is it more about stable duties, rugs, grooming, riding, competitions etc.

Do we really know who they are or even what they are?

What they are is, an incredible spiritual creature with immense sensitivity who can see through us and all of our weaknesses and strengths. They remain loyal to us, reflecting back, they are our mirror, like it or not, for good and everything else they show us!! The Horse sees through us 'the physical person' and reacts to our emotional being and projects back to us through his reactions what he feels from us. So the next time your horse acts through fear, or with anger, 'stubbornness' or what we perceive as 'naughtiness' it is, like or not, a reflection of us!

There is an ever increasing body of people who are beginning to understand that there is a shift in consciousness starting to happen and this will affect us all. Horses are playing an important role for us to recognise and increase our awareness of who we really are.

Snow; love it or hate it?

Whether you love it or hate it, the snow is here and we are certainly not used to it. It is amazing how it has affected our lives and also our equine chums. Personally I love it and cant see what all the fuss is about, it must be the child in me!!

Zac on the other hand would prefer to be out more but there are restrictions on the yard (understandably) so I am endeavouring to keep him sane and physically well too.
Feeding is always an issue in these times and particularly when the horses seem to be fed up with eating hay - try supplementing some succulents (carrots, veg that they like, etc) into their nets and feed. Cut down on the protein and feed bulk to keep the digestive tract happy!

The lymphatic system can get congested with lack of movement as unlike blood vessels it has no means of pumping and relies on the movement of muscles to work efficiently. So a good brisk groom with a long filament brush works well as it gets the circulation going. Don't forget the legs and its a good idea to use a soft brush both up (towards the heart) as well as down the legs.
Legs tend to swell through congestion (excess fluid) when waste products, toxins, collect through the lack of movement. Be careful if the legs have swelled already gently brush or massage them or better still turn the horse out! If the swelling does not subside after exercise, speak to your vet.
The lymphatic system works as a sort of sewage treatment plant so is vital, toxins that build up in the body can cause havoc. If you happen to have some essential oils, try offering your horse (to smell) Juniper Berry, Rosemary, Grapefruit, Lemon or Orange Aromatherapy Oils, these help stimulate and act a s a diuretic to accelerate the detox process, observe how they react to each one. The one that is the most interesting to them is the one they most need. Don't feed it to them though just inhale.
If your horse is very stressy and has to stay in, try adding Rescue Remedy to their water bucket.
So while the snow is here make the most of it, it could be a while before we see it again, and of course it is still winter, that's how it used to be, cold! (and that's how its meant to be, here in the UK!).
Remember, the more stressy we get about the weather, the more they will pick up on our moods and mirror it!

new year; new thoughts, new actions

Hi again,

The reason for the long delay in posting a new entry is that the computer has been on strike, or rather, a real go slow, but we are back and running again now.

I would like to share with you some interesting observations that have happened to me and my horse Zac over the past few weeks.

Having had a continuous run of issues over the past 6 months, from Zac's best friend tragically dying and a subsequent move of yards, to farrier issues that took some skilled remedial work from Nick Hamilton to rectify. I decided to have him checked by the Chiropractor Jose Gonzales, but as well as making a commitment to helping Zac's structure I would at the same time have my back etc checked too, on the same day. I figured that if you are going to spend the time and expense to have your horse realigned then it is sensible to have the one that has the most influence on him, by sitting on him, checked too. I saw a completely different 'human' (not equine) chiropractor (Hugh Laverick, Yateley Chiropractics). Incredibly we both had the same mal-alignments, which makes sense but so often is not appreciated or detected.

I have undertaken a course of treatment which has been remarkable and effective as well as very enlightening. It is amazing how easily we loose touch with how we really move, our awareness gets distracted and we can become stiff without noticing the change. We also miss or perhaps ignore the subtle changes that are happening to our horses.

Very quickly our riding partnership started to change and even those small annoying habits that we had generated disappeared. Zac is moving much more freely and so am I, so the mirroring continues, this time in our recovery.

Zac is nearly 17 and it would be easy to say that his past has taken a toll on his body, particularly when he competed with his previous owner, but taking action now has benefitted him immensely.

Understanding that how we sit on our horses has such a big influence on them at every level is really important and even when we think we are doing the right thing it may not be necessarily so. I considered myself to have reasonable self awareness and this excerise proved that this had slipped and that getting help showed me, not only how far, but got me back on track.

I will keep you posted.
